"Of class I believe in fate." She smiled at that, so he continued lightly, "I believe you were meant to requite that knight to me. You were meant to be my beacon."

I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS Book!!!!!!! One of the all-time books I accept ever read!

Nosotros start the story with Broadway actress Leigh Kendall waking upwardly in the hospital after being in a machine accident on her way to coming together her married man, Logan Manning, at a secluded mountain motel. And from at that place you lot get flashbacks, a bit of her life with her husband and as well pieces of her life when she was in college, and then back to the present. And at present her husband is missing, and then after a while found dead. Leigh together with Michael Valente, a new business organization associate of her married man with a criminal past, are the prime suspects. As the story progresses Leigh finds out that her husband wasn't who she thought he was, and the ways in which he betrayed her had me fuming.

"I was meant to watch over you. I was meant to exist at that place for you when two punks tried to attack you. I was as well supposed to keep y'all," he added bluntly, "but I screwed up and let Logan Manning have you. Do you know what else I believe?"
"I'm almost afraid to enquire."
"I believe fate is giving me some other chance to do my chore."

Then at that place's likewise the re-appearance of a man from Leigh's past, one who loved her so much that fourteen years ago he didn't fight for her, didn't make his move, because he idea she deserved better than him. Only to watch her choose someone even more undeserving of her, someone who near broke her with his expose and lies. But now he's back in her life, and fate has given him a 2d chance at the only adult female he has e'er loved. And this time he'll never let her become again, and he'll prove to her that she was always meant for him.

Who is the real killer, and volition the constabulary detect this person before information technology's too late?

Loving Leigh Kendall had always been an emotional roller-coaster ride for him. Long ago, he'd had to stay abroad from her, and that had been agonizingly hard. Now, he was with her, and he was growing and so attuned to her that he could almost feel what she felt.

This volume was spectacular!! I was hooked correct from the outset, and so intrigued by who the killer could exist, and why Logan was killed. The suspense and plot was fantastically done, enthralling me from the start page until the very end.

And the romance …. The romance was wonderful. I loved every single moment of the hero and the heroine together, and I loved that there was a secondary romance also, which but enriched the book.

It'south difficult to write this review without giving away any spoilers. I can't fifty-fifty give the hero'south name, because information technology'due south best to notice it out for yourself. This book has ane of the best plots I have ever read, the way it kept me guessing was astonishing, and the romance was just magnificent. As presently equally I finished it, I wanted to read the book again, which simply tells you how incredible information technology was.

An epic love story of second chances and a suspenseful plot that will keep you captivated for the entire book. I can't recommend this volume enough. A MUST READ.

Earlier I started reading this I had mixed expectations. The reviews for this volume inappreciably provoked any excitement simply because it was Judith McNaught I was thinking "surely this can't be that bad?" And it wasn't but neither was it that good. To put it simply, I couldn't come across any of the things I love about Judith McNaught in this book. My impression was that she was trying too hard to write a sophisticated crime thriller whilst still keeping her trademark romance in it and in the end the book fell flat because it wasn't her trademark romance and I only wasn't that interested in the complex murder investigation. We never really get to know the characters and from what I did acquire about them, Leigh seemed similar a shallow, nothing-special girl and although I liked Michael I couldn't help thinking there must be something wrong with him if he fell that hard in beloved with Leigh. The romance was poorly adult and the characters hardly knew each other. I liked Sam but I didn't find her relationship with Mack interesting at all and the same affair goes - we never really get to know them.

All in all, this was a iii-star read for me.

It allows them to violate every civil correct the Constitution promises and that they accept sworn to uphold."

What tin can I say? As a novel, equally piece of romance, as a stab at social and criminal justice, Judith McNaught's Someone to Watch Over Me has all my eye and soul. Information technology's difficult to review this book without giving abroad some of the virtually exciting and incredible surprises, but I will do my best!

Leigh Kendall, successful Broadway extra and defended wife, has just been in a severe automobile accident, 1 and so potentially fatal it's a phenomenon she survived. And to add to our heroine's emotional trauma, she wakes in the hospital to observe her husband missing. In the desperate search for Leigh's husband several twists and turns occur in a masterfully detailed and gripping police force investigation; meanwhile, Judith McNaught slowly crafts the figure of her all-time greatest hero...

*takes a step out of the serious volume review circle and walks into full on emotional territory* I LOVE HIM. I cannot tell y'all who I love, merely suffice it to say that when you lot find the identity of this novel'southward hero you will autumn deeper and deeper in beloved with a man who is the PRIME example of what a man ought to be. This volume, and the story of its hero and heroine, goes so far beyond mere romance that it simply blows its competitors out of the water. Everything nigh this book is brilliant, but THIS Human being and his beloved for this adult female was the incredibly rich, sweet, tear-inducing icing that made this my best favorite book.

Only look! Just when you thought this volume couldn't get more successful, McNaught introduces a wonderful side romance! The romance between Lieutenant Mitchell McCord and Detective Samantha Littleton is given but enough attention to draw readers in, without annoying u.s. with a seeming lack of focus. The characterization of them both was and so well-washed that I not simply tolerate the side romance, I highly enjoy information technology! I cannot recall another book achieving that.

Someone to Watch Over Me is about true honey, fate, sacrifice, forbearance, and loyalty. I dare y'all to requite me another book that is so concurrently complex and elementary. I dare yous to discover another man that can compare to this brilliantly crafted, eye-stabbingly slap-up hero. I defy y'all to name an author ameliorate than McNaught. I have been a JM worshipper for years, and everything she touches turns to gilded. This book, with all its drama and intimacy, is pure platinum. Believe me, I should know-I've read it three times.

RATING: FIVE STARS. ALL THE THUMBS Upwards. MY Heart, Torso, AND SOUL. 10 BASKETS OF PEARS.

In addition to that she is besides a suspect accused in the murder of her husband!!!!
A big role of the book is devoted to detectives Samantha Littleton and her team nigh how they solve the mystery of Logan Manning'south murder and also the truth about the past of the cardinal characters. All this past itself makes for a hugely interesting read. Only add to it what JM is famous for-the romance!! And there are not one merely 2 romantic plotlines.
Romance by itself does not interest me unless I care for the characters. And I loved all the 4 master characters (aye one of them enters only halfway through the book, simply plays a significant function). JM has succeeded in creating iv vastly unlike yet well-nigh perfect characters and that is no mean feat. They all seem idealistic but believable.
I was so floored by this that I was eager to check out her other books merely didn't not find them close to this.

This is a murder-mystery and two love stories - many people complain virtually that in novels, but I actually liked information technology in this book. The heroine, Leigh, is a famous actress, works in NYC on Broadway. Her husband has gone missing. She has a hush-hush admirer, who besides is famous and very rich, Michael Valente. I love Michael Valente equally a hero!!! He's awesome and not the typical blastoff male person McNaught writes about. He has been in love with Leigh for many years and somehow they take hold of up, just Leigh doesn't call back him, at first. He wants to aid discover her husband and lends his help at every turn. Unfortunately, he also has a criminal record and the police are involved in finding Leigh'south husband and hate Michael. While this may non plant a clean read in the sense of being rated G, I would say information technology is a clean read - only ane love scene, very mild, and I'd rate it PG.
I really enjoyed this volume and would recommend it, especially to whatever who accept a McNaught history. She has actually inverse her writing manner over the years. There were no large misunderstandings or separations, it's non a bodice ripper, no idiot hero or TSTL heroine. It could have been adult a lilliputian better, because the relationship between Leigh and Michael take off very quickly because the circumstances of her husband. Both male heroes were smashing!!!

Fourth in the Second Opportunity romantic-suspense serial. The couple focus in this story is Michael Valente and Leigh Kendall.

My Have
What can I say, it'due south a McNaught. I love her work. She may be formulaic, merely she does write a skillful story that kept me entranced and racing through the pages. A woman'south life is turned upside downward and threatened and from the background comes her white knight to save the day.

McNaught e'er has her underdog and in this case, the honey of this skillful woman has sustained Valente on his straight and narrow path for fourteen years. What a boot in the teeth for Trumanti! I honey it!! The negative side is too true of human nature. A decent woman surrounded by people whom she thought were good friends. I did like McCord'southward stand at the end. Information technology's these stiff, sensitive blastoff males that get me every time.

McNaught sets a good pace and information technology'due south a good matter the kittens left me lonely to read!

The Story
It'south a successful opening for her new play, and Leigh Kendall is happy to be heading upwardly to their new place in the mountains but frustrated and very nervous following Logan's directions in this chop-chop developing storm. Stopped in the road to re-cheque her directions, someone hits her machine, and she goes tumbling downwardly the mountainside.

Just equally her life as well takes a tumble when she wakes in the hospital, her husband even so hasn't shown, and Leigh is terrified that he's in problem. Upon the law discovering that Michael Valente is one of the Mannings' acquaintances, she is in trouble too. For Valente is a known criminal with fierce tendencies and obviously, Leigh and Valente have plotted his murder. Information technology'southward simply a matter of fourth dimension before the police detect his body in spite of all the misleading Leigh is attempting.

It'southward a series of misconstrued realities and prejudices with strong demands by the law commissioner that send the constabulary off on their tangent giving usa the opportunity to meet true nobility in activeness.

The Characters
Leigh Kendall is the focus of the story. She's happy. She's magic. She's at the peak of her game as a Broadway actress. Surrounded by friends and a loving married man. About to take her wonderful life shatter into pieces at her feet.

The gorgeous Logan Manning is Leigh's husband. A scion of an former respected and one time-wealthy family, Logan has brought the family fortunes back with a vengeance. Michael Valente is Falco Nipote, an old acquaintance from her pre-stardom days, who worked for his aunt, Mrs. Angelini, at the petty Italian market in Leigh'southward neighborhood.

Jason Solomon is the author of Leigh's electric current play; Eric Ingram is his lover. Jane Sebring is the cruelly ambitious extra dying to have over the office from Leigh.

Dr. Sheila Winters is the psychiatrist who start counseled Leigh and Logan when they were having problems; she later became friends with both of them. Hilda is Leigh's trusted housekeeper with a fell attitude toward dust while Joe O'Hara is on loan as a chauffeur-bodyguard from Matt and Meredith Farrell (Paradise) while they take their circular-the-world prowl. Brenna is her personal assistant. Trish Lefkowitz is her publicist.

Detectives Sam Littleton and Malcolm Shrader with Lieutenant Mitchell McCord heading up the investigation. Commissioner William Trumanti has a real difficult-on for Valente and McCord is directed at doing all he can to pin something on him.

The Cover and Title
The cover is in deep shades of blueish forming the corner of a building with someone'due south shadow bandage confronting the cobalt blue of its pinkly lit side.

The title is up in lights just as Leigh Kendall's name is usually upward in lights on Broadway when she'due south starring in a play. Piddling does she know at that place is always Someone to Watch Over Me.

This is a mystery book with two romances on the side.

Leigh wakes up in the hospital after an accident and her hubby is missing. Afterwards on they observe out that he has been murdered and an investigation starts. during the investigation Leigh falls in love with Michael and two of the cops fall in love with each other - Sam and Mack.

There was goose egg interesting in the characters and romance, the book was simply okay.

REVIEW OF ABRIDGED Sound: FEBRUARY 23, 2014: 2 STARS

I liked the book even more this fourth dimension - 11 years since I last read it!

Why 2 stars, then? Because this is an abridged version and missing the secondary romance between McCord and Sam. McCord is the hotshot lead investigator assigned to the Logan murder case and Sam is the newbie cop who is put in his team.

I specifically picked this title for my oldies reread because I recall liking the secondary romance very much. If you've never read this book and are curious to effort the audio, DON'T heed to the abridged version! The entire romantic subplot between Mack McCord is missing! Which makes me wonder why they left that i last bit where McCord tells Valente virtually the finish of the book that he and Sam are getting married. Since there was nothing to even advise they were attracted to each other, this bit of info comes out of left field. Unless you've read the book before, y'all'll be going backwards trying to observe out what and how y'all missed these two cops having the hots for each other. I mean, actually - Non. A. Single. Word throughout the audio and suddenly, just before the story is nigh to end, comes McCord's proclamation.

This abridged version was narrated by January Maxwell and is 4 hours and 33 minutes long. Ms Maxwell'due south operation was expert enough, though in parts I found it difficult to differentiate who was speaking if the persons were all male.

The unabridged audio was narrated by Barbara Rosenblat and published by Recorded Books. That was xv hours and 45 mins. I have searched everywhere I could simply have not been able to buy a download. The only thing available are cassette tapes (!) and CDs, both costing over $123.75. I wrote to Audible, asking them to endeavour and make it available. I know I'll merely become the canned response but at to the lowest degree I made a request.

My opinion of the balance of the volume remains, surprisingly unchanged except that I found the commencement few chapters excruciatingly tiresome this time but am less critical of Leigh taking upwards with Valente so rapidly. I practice still think she'south the blandest heroine to ever make information technology to a romance, though, and can't buy into her romance with Valente because I can't, for the life of me, figure out what he sees in her. Despite all this, I yet enjoyed the sound but will never listen to information technology over again, now that I know there is an UNabridged version but waiting to be re-released.

REVIEW OF PAPERBACK: DECEMBER one, 2001: four STARS

I'm 1 of those who loved this volume even though I idea it started to drag a little in the first few chapters. It was taking forever for Logan's body to be discovered and I didn't know whether this championship was going to be a 'romantic' suspense (which is why I bought it) or I was going to end up feeling cheated because it was going to turn out like an Iris Johansen or Tami Hoag straight suspense (which is why I no longer read their books).

But once Sam Littleton (a secondary character) met Mack (her superior in the investigative team) I couldn't finish turning the pages! These ii just stole the show from Leigh Kendall, who must be the blandest heroine to come up from McNaught! Her romance with Valente was completely overshadowed by Sam and Mack's. I find her ability to switch her feelings to Valente so soon after her husband'south murder rather improbable, peculiarly since McNaught portrayed Leigh as existence deeply in love with Logan. So I had this heroine, supposedly deep in love with her husband but falls for another man before the expressionless - cheating - husband'southward body is common cold in the footing. Surely, Leigh would be at least cautious, cynical and too securely hurt to be thinking of a new romance?

Having said that, STWOM is a McNaught I'm still thankful I read because I admittedly loved what she got going between Sam and Mack! They, and not Leigh and Valente, ought to be have been the master protagonists.

I was excited to learn of a Judith McNaught book out there that I had missed reading when I ran through all of her stuff a few years ago. I consider her the master of romance, many of her stories have touched me deeply and stayed with me for years. (Many romance novels, even good ones, tend to be forgettable in the 1000 scheme of things.)

The trouble with this book is that it isn't a romance. Oh, there are some couples getting together, simply it's basically a mystery novel. And I don't want to guess the book harshly because an author dared write a story outside of her expected mold -- every bit a matter of fact, I respect writers who don't always tell the same story over and over again -- but as a mystery, I thought this was simply okay.

So Logan Manning is killed at the cabin where he and his wife were supposed to run into for a romantic weekend. She never makes it because she gets into a car blow, and his trunk isn't discovered for a few days. When the murder is discovered, Leigh Manning is their primary suspect, largely cheers to a chance acquaintance with Michael Valente, a well-publicized criminal.

Every part of this mystery felt overly familiar to me. I can't honestly say I knew for certain who had done it early on, only I didn't experience a sense of urgency nigh discovering the killer's identity. Actually, I would rather figure information technology out early and be excited by the hunt than experience indifferent about it.

Part of the problem, I think, was the split focus of this volume. We spent as much time with the squad investigating the murder every bit nosotros did with Leigh. There was even a secondary romance (already a secondary plot) betwixt two of the cops doing the investigation. I remember that because we spent so much fourth dimension with the cops, working through the procedure with them, and getting to know them, it was too perfectly obvious that sooner or afterward they would effigy out they were barking up the incorrect tree. This greatly reduced the tension.

All in all, I can't recommend this book, though it did get me in the mood to re-read a couple of my favorites by Judith McNaught.

Sam and Mack'south characters were interesting, too. And, oh of course, Courtney Maitland. I LOVE her! She's then much fun to read about. I've read almost her in Night Whispers and she was really cool. All in all, it was a proficient book.

I read this book a long time ago and I still retrieve the story. (Thanks to Goodreads, I now remember the title and author)

Fifty-fifty the secondary characters were remarkable. The promise of something more is hinted with Sam, but the author gave us then much, that you want to know the residual of that story.
Truly a wonderful book.

Splendid read. I really liked that the hero was someone from her past. I felt that information technology fabricated their story more than believable and intimate, equally the bedroom seemed a quick transition from her point of view.
It showed his POV more in the relationship, which made him one of my favorite heros.
Not so much angst as I am used to from Mcnaught in their relationship, that was a nice change.
In that location are few writers that tin tell a story like JM.

At terminal.
Just cease this novel. And what can I say is, non then romance.

Really slow but full of suspend. U can't to guess who is the killer. Everyone in this novel would be a killer and Logan e'er exist an innocent victim. But, but, but... So pitty for Leigh.

I always dearest Judith Mcnaught'southward romance unfortunately non in this novel. After 70% of this novel, I enjoyed the story.

Pst... I can't imagine how Valente looks similar if he come alive. He then special to me. Proficient chore for this author 😘😘😘

Good, but non really a romance or a McNaught stereotypical romance. More than or less this is an attempt at a mystery novel, which falters a bit. The whole villain was super easy tot guess at who it was and there were some major plot holes, and I thought that both of the romances were insat love-ish at best. Full review to come.

I don't know if it was me, the book, or a combination of both simply information technology took me virtually 2 weeks to read this one. Usually I give up on books like this but as it was a buddy read with a couple others on Twitter, I felt I had to terminate information technology.

I'1000 going to be honest. The first 250-300 pages or so were a complete snooze fest for me. Information technology was just slow. Very dull. Truthfully, it finally picked upwards for me once I got to page 334 simply even so, I institute myself skimming.

I don't know if it was me, the book, or a combination of both just it took me almost 2 weeks to read this one. Normally I give up on books like this merely as it was a buddy read with a couple others on Twitter, I felt I had to stop it.

I'm going to be honest. The showtime 250-300 pages or so were a complete snooze fest for me. It was just boring. Very boring. Truthfully, it finally picked up for me once I got to page 334 merely even and so, I found myself skimming.

I don't believe for a second that Leigh did not know Logan was cheating on her. It's mentioned that in the 14 years of marriage, he had already cheated on her earlier so I experience she was just in denial about the whole thing when it finally came out that her husband could not keep his pants zipped and had been having affairs with iii or iv different women. No way would she not take known and then to hint that he was amazing in bed?? Please. Unless he was Superman, at that place was no fashion he could have satisfied all of those women, plus his married woman, with no one lament or fifty-fifty getting a hint that hello, something isn't right here.

So we take the stalker story that concluded up going nowhere and leaving me with a "WTF, are you lot SERIOUS?" feeling. He'due south mentioned at the beginning of the story, mentioned once again in different scenes and so I ended up skimming one page & completely missed that the idiot "volunteered" to plough himself in and become to handling completely out of the blue and that was the end of the stalker story. We never constitute out who he was. We never saw the "reveal", we got zip about the whole thing which completely makes that whole subplot completely useless in this story. What was the point of that if there was never even going to be a scene revealing who he was and how he got caught? Baroque.

The only thing that kept me reading was the hero. I had heard others say he was the reason they finished the book, if information technology hadn't been for him they would have given upwards and I take to say...I completely agree. I loved that he used a knight as his "beacon" to the heroine to keep him going in the years he hadn't seen her but I nevertheless don't know if she was his perfect fit. She was just and so clueless at times.
